As the father of a toddler, I pay a lot more attention to kid-focused tech products these days than I ever did before. Whether it is long car rides, airplane travel, or simply trying to survive a rainy afternoon indoors, a decent pair of children’s headphones can quickly go from “nice to have” to “absolutely necessary.” That is probably why Belkin’s new SoundForm Mini 2 headphones immediately caught my attention.
The company has officially introduced the second generation of its SoundForm Mini headphones, a product line that Belkin says has already sold more than 2 million units globally. Clearly, parents are buying these things in huge numbers.
The SoundForm Mini 2 is designed for children ages 3 and up, and Belkin says the new model improves on the original with a foldable design, longer battery life, and easier controls for younger kids. The battery claim is especially notable, with up to 55 hours of listening time on a single charge. Honestly, that sounds almost excessive, but parents will probably appreciate not constantly hunting for a charging cable.
One of the more interesting additions is something Belkin calls “Rockstar Mode.” Basically, two SoundForm Mini 2 headphones can share audio from the same device using either wired or wireless connections. If you have siblings watching a movie together in the back seat, that could end up being surprisingly useful.
Belkin is also continuing to emphasize safety features. The headphones include an 85dB volume limit designed to help protect children’s hearing. That is important because kids have a tendency to crank volume levels to ridiculous extremes if left unsupervised.
The company says the headphones are sweat-resistant, splash-resistant, and durable enough to survive drops too. Considering toddlers seem to throw literally everything, that durability could matter more than fancy audio specs.
Parents also get both Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. I am actually glad Belkin kept the wired option around because there are still plenty of situations where Bluetooth can be annoying or unreliable, especially while traveling.
The SoundForm Mini 2 charges over USB-C and comes in blue, black, pink, and an Amazon-exclusive purple color option. Pricing lands at $39.99 (buy here), which honestly feels fairly reasonable compared to some overpriced kid gadgets on the market today.
As someone raising a young child myself, I am genuinely curious about these headphones. The combination of long battery life, travel-friendly folding, and volume limiting checks a lot of boxes for parents who want to hand over a tablet without completely regretting it five minutes later.
