If you create music, edit videos, record podcasts, or simply care about how your audio sounds, Edifier wants your attention. The company has unveiled the MR4.5, a new pair of powered studio monitors that slots between the budget-friendly MR4 and the flagship MR5.
I’ve tried several Edifier speakers over the years, and I’ve consistently come away impressed. The company has built a reputation for delivering excellent sound quality at prices that often undercut the competition. While I haven’t had the chance to listen to the MR4.5 yet, my experiences with Edifier’s other products make this release one I’ll be watching closely.
Rather than chasing flashy features, the MR4.5 focuses on delivering accurate sound while adding the conveniences many desktop users now expect. That means you can use them for serious work during the day and then switch over to music or movies without changing your setup.
The speakers produce 80 watts RMS of total output, with dual 4.5-inch polypropylene mid-bass drivers and dual 1-inch silk dome tweeters. Edifier says they offer a frequency response of 50Hz to 40kHz and support 24-bit/96kHz digital signal processing. The MR4.5 is also certified for both Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless.
One of the biggest additions is Bluetooth 6.0 with the LDAC codec, allowing for higher-quality wireless audio than standard Bluetooth connections. Multipoint support also makes it easy to jump between devices, whether you’re working from a desktop, checking something on your phone, or listening from a tablet.
Wired connectivity is equally well covered. The MR4.5 includes balanced XLR and 1/4-inch TRS inputs alongside RCA and 3.5mm auxiliary connections. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also built in for times when you don’t want to disturb anyone nearby.
Edifier has also included acoustic tuning controls and desktop compensation, helping users adjust the speakers to better suit their listening environment. If you’d rather tweak settings from your phone, the company’s ConneX app lets you customize the listening experience without reaching behind the speakers.
The MR4.5 seems like a good addition to the MR lineup. It offers more connectivity and customization than the entry-level MR4 without pushing buyers all the way to the premium MR5. For creators who want studio-style monitoring but also appreciate modern wireless features, it could hit a sweet spot.
As always, the specifications look promising, but speakers ultimately live or die by how they sound. Based on my experience with Edifier’s products, however, I’m very optimistic. The company has earned my trust by consistently producing speakers that sound far better than their price tags suggest. Whether the MR4.5 continues that streak is something I’ll be eager to find out.
The Edifier MR4.5 is available now in either black or white for $249.99. If you’re interested in picking up a pair, you can find them on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/4fboamO.
