Surfshark launches world’s first 100Gbps VPN servers

Surfshark is trying to make sure VPN users won’t be stuck with slowdowns in the future by rolling out the world’s first 100Gbps VPN servers in Amsterdam. The cybersecurity company says this upgrade is about staying ahead of rising internet speeds and the growing number of devices pulling down huge updates and streaming at high bitrates.

Donatas Budvytis, Surfshark’s Chief Technology Officer, explained, “With 10 times the headroom of 10Gbps, we can reduce congestion and maintain consistent speeds, even during high traffic spikes. This is especially important as the demand for higher network capacity and the number of online devices per household continue to grow rapidly.”

The Amsterdam launch location isn’t random. It’s home to AMS-IX, one of the largest internet exchanges in the world, moving more than 14 trillion bits per second. To put that in everyday terms, that’s about 560,000 people streaming 4K video at once, or millions of gamers playing online simultaneously without choking the network.

According to Surfshark, 100Gbps hardware isn’t just about raw speed. It also allows VPN encryption to happen faster on modern CPUs, improves load balancing, and reduces the need to throttle traffic. For users, that should mean downloads and cloud backups that come closer to maxing out their ISP speeds. Pricing remains unchanged for Surfshark customers, so those who subscribe should benefit as the new infrastructure comes online.
