Surfshark has introduced a new privacy-focused feature called the web content blocker, aimed at helping households stay safe online without resorting to invasive tracking tools. The cybersecurity company says this feature allows users to filter websites by category, set restrictions with two-factor authentication (2FA), and protect family members from harmful or deceptive online content.
Justas Pukys, Senior Product Manager at Surfshark, described the web content blocker as “a new approach to online safety that differs from traditional parental controls.” Instead of monitoring browsing activity, it blocks content categories in a way that prioritizes respect and autonomy. “No matter whether you want to protect your children, help an elderly relative avoid fraud, or maintain a shared home without disruption, it is important to have clear, fair boundaries that are actually applied,” said Pukys. “That’s why we created a web content blocker, so people can turn control into care without tracking involved.”

Unlike conventional tracking or monitoring software, Surfshark’s solution prevents access to risky or explicit content without recording anyone’s browsing habits. Users can create tailored profiles for family members, applying unique content filters and locking them with 2FA for added security.
Pukys added, “With the web content blocker, you can protect all connected devices, choose custom lists for each family member or device, and help them improve online security simply while respecting everyone’s privacy.”

To enable the new feature, users need to open the Surfshark app on each device, log in with the same account, turn on the web content blocker, and set a lock with 2FA if desired. From there, users can manage content categories for each device in the “Your devices” section of the app.
The web content blocker is currently available on Android and iOS for Surfshark One and One+ subscribers, with support for more platforms expected in future updates.
