Surfshark has launched a new tool to help protect users against email phishing attacks. This on-demand feature provides an extra layer of defense against today’s more sophisticated scams, which have exploded in volume with 3.4 billion phishing emails sent daily and 1.5 million new phishing websites created every month.
“Nine out of ten scams originate directly from emails rather than attachments. Our AI-powered email scam checker is designed to identify and prevent these threats by scanning key areas for fraudulent links and scam patterns. It analyzes email content, sender details, and other characteristics to warn users about potential harm,” explained Nedas Kazlauskas, Product Manager at Surfshark.

The email scam checker, included in the Surfshark Chrome browser extension, strengthens protection against phishing attempts. It gives users the ability to check suspicious emails and receive real-time warnings about potential fraud and malware. By identifying malicious links and attachments, Surfshark’s new feature helps prevent data theft and infections before they happen.
The rise of AI has made phishing attacks harder to detect, and scammers are constantly improving their tactics. Surfshark’s tool helps level the playing field by using AI itself to counter these evolving threats. It examines not just what’s visible in an email but also subtle technical clues most people would never notice.
Ledger supports Linux, is open-source where it counts, and is battle-tested. If you’re holding crypto, you should own a hardware wallet.
Kazlauskas notes that even the most cautious users can be fooled by convincing emails that mimic trusted companies. Typical signs include generic greetings, spelling errors, and urgent messages pressuring quick action. The email scam checker goes beyond spotting those basics by analyzing sender details, message structures, and metadata to flag even the most deceptive scams.
The email scam checker is now available for Gmail users through the Surfshark Chrome browser extension and is included with Surfshark One and One+ subscriptions. I’ve personally been using Surfshark for years and consider it my favorite VPN thanks to its balance of performance, privacy, and constant innovation in online safety.
