Sora 2 AI is making disturbing Martin Luther King Jr. videos and it needs to stop

When I first saw Sora 2 in action, I was impressed. The AI can create realistic and imaginative clips that feel like something pulled straight from the future. At first I did not mind seeing it used with famous figures or intellectual property because it felt experimental and creative.

But that perspective changed when I came across Sora 2 videos misusing Martin Luther King Jr. In some clips, he is shown foolishly dancing. Others put him in situations like taking paternity tests on a Maury-like show. Worst of all, some even go as far as to mock his “I Have a Dream” speech, twisting words that shaped the fight for civil rights into cheap comedy. Watching those videos is uncomfortable. They are not funny. They are cringeworthy and disrespectful to a man whose legacy continues to inspire millions.

Look, Martin Luther King Jr. is not just another historical figure. He represents the fight for racial equality, dignity, and nonviolent resistance. His leadership during the Civil Rights Movement led to landmark changes, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. His words and actions gave courage to people who faced systemic racism and violence on a daily basis. His “I Have a Dream” speech still resonates today as a call for justice and unity. To see that legacy turned into internet gags by AI video is more than tasteless, it is a direct insult to history.

This is where OpenAI has a responsibility. Sora 2 can be an amazing tool, but without safeguards, it risks becoming a platform for disrespect and distortion. There is a clear difference between playful creativity and mocking someone who gave his life for equality. If OpenAI wants this technology to be trusted, it needs to recognize that difference and put real guardrails in place.

The future of AI video does not have to look like this. Sora 2 could empower new forms of art, education, and storytelling. It could help people bring impossible visions to life. But if the most visible use cases are cheap jokes at the expense of cultural icons, then it will only fuel backlash. Martin Luther King Jr. deserves better, and so does the technology.
