Lexar has launched the ES5 Magnetic Portable SSD, a compact drive built for creators who want speed and convenience. It delivers read and write speeds of up to 2000MB/s, making it powerful enough for 4K and 8K video recording on modern smartphones. The drive connects over USB-C and works with both iPhone and Android devices. It will also work iPad, Windows, and Mac.
The ES5 features a MagSafe-compatible design so it can snap directly onto an iPhone. For Android and other gear, Lexar includes a magnetic ring accessory to create a secure mounting point. With the SSD attached, users can shoot ProRes video on iPhone 16 and 17 at 4K 120FPS, or capture Samsung Pro Video at 8K 30FPS on the Galaxy S25.
Lexar built the ES5 to handle tough conditions. It carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, can survive drops of up to three meters, and uses a thermal control system to keep performance steady during long shoots. The drive has a slim form factor and a liquid silicone coating to give it a comfortable grip.
