Plugable has launched the TBT-UDM, a Thunderbolt 4 docking station designed with Apple users in mind but fully compatible with Windows too. It has a Space Gray aluminum enclosure that blends in with a MacBook setup, yet offers the same performance and flexibility to PC users.
The dock can run two 4K 60Hz displays over HDMI, or a single 6K monitor on macOS. On Windows, the downstream Thunderbolt 4 port can drive an 8K display at 30Hz. That port also supports USB-C and Thunderbolt peripherals, delivering up to 40Gbps bandwidth for high-speed drives, USB-C monitors, and AI enclosures.
It comes with 13 total ports including two HDMI, four USB-A (two 10Gbps, two 5Gbps), one USB-C (10Gbps), SD and microSD card slots, a combo audio jack, and Gigabit Ethernet. Power delivery tops out at 100W (96W certified) and automatically adjusts to your laptop’s needs.
Bernie Thompson, Plugable’s CTO and founder, said, “With all Apple M4 models and Pro or Max chips across M3 and M4 now supporting dual displays natively over Thunderbolt, and even M3 base models enabling it in clamshell mode, it was the perfect time to launch a dock that not only works flawlessly, but looks right at home in any Mac setup. This dock isn’t for base M1 and M2 Macs, which only support a single external display. But for every other Apple Silicon MacBook, the TBT-UDM delivers full GPU-powered graphics with no drivers required, all wrapped in aluminum that matches Apple’s design from every angle.”
Mac compatibility includes all M4 systems, all Pro and Max versions of M3 and M4, and base M3 models with the lid closed. Base M1 and M2 Macs remain limited to one display unless using a DisplayLink dock. On the Windows side, any Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 system running Windows 10 or later can run dual displays.
The TBT-UDM is priced at $199.95 and launches with a $40 discount. In the box, you get a 1-meter Thunderbolt 4 cable, a power supply, and Plugable’s two-year warranty with U.S.-based support.
