
Google is expanding its Quantum AI division with the addition of Atlantic Quantum, an MIT-founded startup focused on integrated quantum hardware. The goal is to speed up progress on building useful, error-corrected quantum computers.
Atlantic Quantum has developed modular chip stacks that combine qubits with superconducting control electronics inside the cold stage. This approach could help Google scale its superconducting hardware more effectively and strengthen its roadmap.
Google has already been moving forward with its Willow chip, but the new team may help move the effort from research toward real-world applications. Managing the supporting systems around qubits has long been one of the biggest hurdles.
Look, folks, I believe quantum computing could be even more impactful than AI. When artificial intelligence and quantum computing converge on a bigger level, however, the world could change in ways we can hardly predict.
