Powerful Linux laptops have a habit of turning into bulky desktop replacements. System76 is going in the opposite direction with the sixth-generation Adder Pro, also known as model addp6.
The new System76 Adder Pro weighs just 3.37 pounds, making it between two and three pounds lighter than the older Adder WS. That is a huge difference for anyone who plans to carry the thing instead of leaving it permanently attached to a desk.
System76 did not get there by gutting the hardware, either. The laptop is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 356H processor with 16 total cores and a maximum speed of 4.7GHz. Graphics options include the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5070, both with 8GB of GDDR7 memory.

The 15.3-inch OLED display is probably the most appealing part of the package. It has a 2560 x 1600 resolution, a taller 16:10 aspect ratio, a 165Hz refresh rate, and claimed coverage of 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut. System76 also lists 500-nit brightness and a peak response time of 1ms or less.
In other words, this is not merely a developer laptop with a decent screen slapped onto it. The sixth-generation Adder Pro is clearly aimed at gamers, video editors, streamers, and creators who want Linux without giving up high-end graphics.
Memory can be configured with up to 96GB of dual-channel DDR5 RAM. Storage tops out at 4TB through the main M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 slot, while a second M.2 2242 slot leaves room for an additional drive.

The port selection includes two USB-C connections with DisplayPort 1.4, two USB-A ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, and a combined headphone and microphone jack. The laptop can also drive as many as three external 4K displays.
Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. There is also a 5-megapixel camera with a physical privacy shutter, which is always preferable to simply trusting software.
System76 will offer the sixth-generation Adder Pro with Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS and the COSMIC desktop environment. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will also be available for buyers who prefer a more familiar Ubuntu setup.

The magnesium-aluminum chassis measures just 0.78 inches thick, although the 230W charger will probably add some noticeable weight to your bag. The 60Wh battery is not especially large for this class of machine, either, so real-world battery life will be worth watching.
Still, the sixth-generation System76 Adder Pro looks like a far more portable Linux powerhouse than its predecessor. Pricing starts at $2,499.
