TCL K70 brings Android 16 and 5G to Verizon Prepaid for just $49.99

TCL has launched a new budget smartphone in the United States, and the pricing is probably what will grab the most attention. The new TCL K70 is now available exclusively through Verizon Prepaid for only $49.99.

That is an eyebrow-raising number in 2026, especially when many phones now cost hundreds, or even well over $1,000. Sure, this is not some ultra-premium flagship loaded with every bleeding-edge feature imaginable, but TCL seems to understand something a lot of phone makers have forgotten – many people simply want an affordable device that feels modern enough for daily life.

The TCL K70 checks quite a few boxes for a prepaid phone. It ships with Android 16, supports 5G, and packs a large 5,200mAh battery. The company also includes a 120Hz display, which is still surprisingly uncommon in ultra-cheap devices.

The screen measures 6.75 inches and uses Gorilla Glass protection. TCL describes the visuals as offering AMOLED-quality color, although the panel itself is listed as HD+. Either way, smoother scrolling from the 120Hz refresh rate should make the phone feel snappier than its price tag suggests.

Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor alongside 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Folks needing extra space for photos, videos, or music can expand storage by up to 2TB using microSD cards, which is becoming increasingly rare as manufacturers continue abandoning expandable storage altogether.

Photography duties are handled by a dual rear camera setup featuring a 50MP main sensor and a 5MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, TCL includes a 32MP selfie camera. Video recording tops out at 1080p at 30fps, which is perfectly acceptable for a phone in this category.

Battery life could end up being one of the bigger selling points here. TCL says the K70 can deliver up to 17 hours of usage time and as much as 733 hours of standby time. Fast charging is supported over USB-C, and the phone even includes Powershare functionality.

Connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.1, hotspot support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual SIM support, eSIM support, and compatibility with international networks in more than 200 countries depending on carrier plans.

Security is handled with both fingerprint authentication and facial recognition. Accessibility features include RTT, captions, magnification tools, Google Assistant support, hearing aid compatibility, and Google Text-to-Speech.

The TCL K70 will not replace a Galaxy S Ultra or Pixel Pro, obviously. But you know what? TCL is not pretending it will. But at $49.99 through Verizon Prepaid, this phone feels aimed squarely at practical buyers. Students, seniors, kids getting their first phone, or anyone tired of absurd smartphone pricing may find this device surprisingly appealing.
