VirtualBox 7.2.4 brings Linux 6.18 kernel support and key fixes for Windows XP guests

Oracle has released VirtualBox 7.2.4, a maintenance update that smooths out several issues across host and guest platforms. The most notable improvement is initial support for the Linux 6.18 kernel, ensuring compatibility with newer distributions for both hosts and guests. This comes as the open source virtualization platform continues to be a popular choice among developers and Linux enthusiasts who prefer running virtual machines without proprietary overhead.

The update also resolves a VM Manager crash that occurred when a host system resumed from sleep, a bug reported on GitHub under issues gh-121 and gh-170. In addition, Oracle improved NAT stability, fixing a problem that caused port forwarding rules to interfere with one another. Users running Linux guests on RHEL 9.6 and 9.7 will benefit from additional Guest Additions fixes, while Windows users still running XP SP2 guests will appreciate installation improvements that resolve previous failures.

Traditional Chinese, Greek, Swedish, Hungarian, and Indonesian language translations have been refreshed as part of this release. While 7.2.4 is not a major feature update, it represents continued maintenance and community responsiveness that help keep VirtualBox relevant even as commercial virtualization tools grow more complex.
