Apple TV+ crushes Emmy nominations with ‘Severance’ and ‘The Studio’ making awards history

Tim Cook holds Emmy

Apple just made its biggest move yet in the TV world. You see, for the 77th Emmy Awards, Apple TV+ landed a record-breaking 81 nominations! That number puts it ahead of every other network or streamer this year. Not bad for a platform that didn’t even exist six years ago.

Leading the charge is Severance, which returned for a second season and picked up 27 nominations. It’s officially the most-nominated series of the year. Right behind it is The Studio, Apple’s new comedy, which scored 23 nominations and set a new record for a freshman comedy.

Apple didn’t just do well in a few categories. It’s the only platform to have multiple shows nominated in both Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Comedy. That includes Severance, Slow Horses, Shrinking, and The Studio.

Severance earned nods for Adam Scott and Britt Lower in the lead roles, and several others in supporting and guest spots. That includes Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Jane Alexander, Merritt Wever, and more. Ben Stiller and Jessica Lee Gagné were both nominated for directing, and the show was recognized across a long list of craft categories like sound, editing, music, and even title design.

The Studio had a huge showing too. Seth Rogen was nominated for acting, writing, and directing. Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, and Catherine O’Hara landed supporting nods. The show dominated the guest actor category with nominations for Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, and Dave Franco. Zoë Kravitz was nominated as a guest actress.

Apple’s Shrinking finally got recognized for Outstanding Comedy Series. Harrison Ford picked up his first Emmy nomination, joined by Jason Segel, Michael Urie, and Jessica Williams.

Slow Horses earned five nominations, including Outstanding Drama, Lead Actor for Gary Oldman, and writing for Will Smith. Presumed Innocent, The Gorge, Dope Thief, and Disclaimer were all recognized as well.

Even Apple’s documentaries got attention. Deaf President Now! and Bono: Stories of Surrender each picked up multiple nominations.

It’s clear that Apple’s strategy of focusing on fewer, high-quality shows is working. These aren’t forgettable filler series. They’re shows that are connecting with audiences and grabbing the attention of Emmy voters.

Apple execs say they’re proud of the creativity and talent behind every nomination. And they should be. With top-tier acting, bold writing, and standout production values, Apple TV+ has turned into a serious force in streaming.

Winners will be announced in September, but no matter what happens, Apple already walked away with a major win. The numbers speak for themselves.
