Lenovo has officially launched the Chromebook Plus 14, a premium new laptop that aims to change the way people view ChromeOS. This model is especially interesting because it is the first Chromebook powered by the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra processor. It also includes several exclusive Google AI features that work both on the device and in the cloud.
While many still think of Chromebooks as limited machines for casual users, Lenovo seems determined to break that stereotype. The Chromebook Plus 14 is designed for professionals, students, and creative users who want something powerful, portable, and flexible. With up to 50 TOPS of AI processing, this model is built for those who need more than just a web browser.
One of the standout features is its 14-inch 2K OLED display, which supports 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut. That makes it ideal for photo editing, video streaming, and even gaming with Android apps. Lenovo pairs this beautiful display with four built-in speakers and Dolby Atmos support, which means it sounds as good as it looks.
The laptop is powered by the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 chip, along with an advanced GPU and a dedicated AI processor. This makes the Chromebook fast and responsive, especially when using the new AI features. Users can take advantage of tools like smart grouping for tabs and apps, on-device image editing in the Gallery app, and built-in Gemini support for AI assistance.
There are also handy features for multitaskers, like the ability to use Lens to search anything on your screen without switching tabs. Text capture lets users pull information from photos or documents and add it to Calendar or Docs instantly. A new version of Help Me Read simplifies complex text and even allows users to ask follow-up questions.
On the hardware side, Lenovo went all-in. The Chromebook Plus 14 has a sleek aluminum body, a backlit keyboard, a spacious touchpad, and support for two external 4K monitors. It also includes a 5MP webcam with a physical privacy shutter and an optional fingerprint reader. Weighing just 2.6 pounds, it is easy to carry all day and boasts up to 17 hours of battery life.
Connectivity is modern too, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 onboard. It comes with up to 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage, making it a solid choice for professionals who work remotely or travel often. The fanless design keeps it quiet, even during intense tasks like editing photos or attending video calls in noisy places.
For schools and businesses, there is support for Chrome Enterprise Upgrade and Chrome Education Upgrade. These tools give IT teams cloud-based management options, so they can deploy, monitor, and secure devices from anywhere.
Personally, this device hits all the right notes. After switching to a Chromebook myself, I wrote about five reasons why I prefer ChromeOS over Windows 11. Lenovo’s latest release only strengthens my belief that ChromeOS is the smarter choice for most people.
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is available now in Lunar Grey and Seashell starting at $649.
