Summer heat can be brutal, folks. And if you are the type of nerd that would rather stay inside playing games, watching YouTube, building PCs, or tinkering with Linux boxes instead of sweating outdoors, the new DEWALT 20V MAX Portable Air Cooler might actually be pretty appealing.
DEWALT just launched a rugged-looking portable cooler that combines three things into one device: a fan, an insulated cooler chest, and a charging station. It feels very much like a product designed for contractors first, but I can easily see regular people wanting one too.
The big selling point is portability. The unit runs on DEWALT 20V MAX batteries, meaning folks already invested in the company’s power tool ecosystem can use the same batteries they probably already own. No weird proprietary nonsense required.

Inside is a 32-quart insulated compartment for drinks, ice, snacks, or whatever else you want to keep cold while hiding from the sun. There is also USB-C charging for phones and gadgets, which honestly feels like one of the smartest features here. A lot of people already carry battery packs, portable speakers, or handheld gaming devices during the summer, so being able to top off a phone while sitting outside is genuinely useful.
The built-in phone holder is another small touch that makes this feel more modern than a basic cooler with a fan bolted onto it. You can easily imagine somebody parking their phone there while watching YouTube, following a recipe while grilling, or streaming a baseball game in the backyard.
Personally, I think the funniest part about this product is that it sort of blurs the line between jobsite equipment and lifestyle gadget. One minute it is sitting next to a contractor working in a hot garage. The next minute it is parked beside a lawn chair while someone doomscrolls Reddit and refuses to leave the house because it is 92 degrees outside.

And hey, I get it.
Long Island summers can get sticky fast. There are definitely days where I would rather sit in the shade with cold drinks, a Steam Deck, and a portable fan blasting at me than deal with the outside world.
The feature list is pretty practical too. DEWALT says the cooler includes a digital display, three fan speed settings, quiet operation, built-in beverage holders, large wheels, a large flip-up handle, storage space for devices, and a drainage port for melted ice. That last feature sounds boring until you have dealt with cheap coolers that turn emptying water into a full-body workout.

The DEWALT 20V MAX Portable Air Cooler is available now at Lowe’s and Home Depot for $299.99
What I still want to know is how effective the airflow actually is once temperatures become miserable. Portable battery-powered cooling products tend to overpromise sometimes. If this thing can genuinely keep someone comfortable during a heatwave, though, I could see it becoming one of those products people unexpectedly love.
