CHERRY XTRFY K5 Pro TMR Compact keyboard debuts magnetic sensing for ultra precise gaming

Mechanical keyboards have gotten pretty wild in recent years, folks. Adjustable actuation, rapid trigger tricks, magnetic switches. If you are into competitive gaming, it can start to feel like every millisecond suddenly matters. Now CHERRY XTRFY is jumping into that race with a new board called the K5 Pro TMR Compact, and it leans heavily into magnetic switch technology.

The new keyboard builds on the company’s existing K5 lineup, but this time the focus is Tunnel Magnetoresistance sensing, better known as TMR. Instead of relying on traditional mechanical contact, the keyboard measures changes in a magnetic field to detect key movement. According to CHERRY, the system can detect movement with precision down to 0.01 mm. That means gamers can fine tune exactly when a keypress registers.

If that sounds familiar, it is because magnetic switch keyboards have been gaining traction recently. Hall Effect designs have already shown up across the gaming keyboard market, but CHERRY is pitching TMR as the next step beyond that. The idea is greater sensitivity and better precision when detecting tiny movements in the switch.

That precision also opens the door to a lot of customization. Through the company’s MagCrate software, users can adjust actuation points and even assign multiple functions to a single key depending on how far the key is pressed or how long it is held down. For competitive players who want extremely specific control over their inputs, that level of tuning could be appealing.

Speed is another selling point. The K5 Pro TMR Compact features an 8000Hz polling rate, meaning the keyboard can report input to the computer up to eight thousand times per second. Pair that with magnetic sensing that avoids traditional mechanical contact, and the company says the result is lower latency and very stable input signals during fast gameplay.

The keyboard itself uses a compact 65 percent layout. That smaller footprint removes extra keys while keeping the essentials, which gives gamers more room to move a mouse around on the desk. It is a layout that has become increasingly popular among esports players for exactly that reason.

CHERRY XTRFY also put some effort into how the keyboard feels and sounds. The board uses a metal plate construction along with multi layer damping and pre lubricated PCB mounted stabilizers. The goal is smoother key presses, reduced vibration, and cleaner acoustics while typing or gaming.

There is also hot swap support for magnetic switches, allowing users to change switches without breaking out a soldering iron. Add in an ARGB LED strip for lighting effects, and the keyboard clearly aims to deliver both performance and a bit of visual flair for gaming setups.

The CHERRY XTRFY K5 Pro TMR Compact is available now from Amazon for $149.99.
