Tablets are great for portability, but anyone who has tried to do serious work on one knows the limitations show up quickly. There are rarely enough ports, file transfers can be awkward, and connecting to a proper display is often more trouble than it should be. Satechi is attempting to smooth out some of those rough edges with its new OntheGo Foldable Stand Hub.
Rather than acting as just another dongle, this accessory combines a tablet stand with a USB-C hub. The goal is simple: take a tablet and give it enough connectivity to behave a bit more like a desktop setup.
The OntheGo Foldable Stand Hub unfolds into a stand that holds a tablet at a comfortable viewing angle while also exposing a collection of ports. When finished, the whole thing folds flat so it can slip into a backpack or laptop sleeve without taking up much space.
One of the more useful additions is a 4K HDMI port capable of driving an external display at 60Hz. That allows a tablet to push content to a larger monitor, which can make multitasking, editing, or presenting far more comfortable.

Power is handled through USB-C Power Delivery passthrough with support for up to 100W. That means the tablet can remain charged during longer work sessions while the hub is in use.
The device also includes two high-speed data ports. One USB-C and one USB-A port support transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, which should be more than adequate for external SSDs and other storage devices.
Satechi did not forget about content creators either. The hub includes both SD and microSD card readers that support the UHS-II standard, with transfer speeds reaching up to 312MB/s. That makes it easier to move large photo or video files directly onto a tablet for editing.
The stand itself is built around a reinforced hinge that Satechi says has been tested for thousands of folds. A non-magnetic grip keeps tablets in place whether they are used bare or inside a case.
While the accessory is clearly aimed at tablets like the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini from 2021 or later, it can also work with other USB-C devices. Samsung smartphone users may find it especially interesting, since connecting through the hub can enable DeX Mode and produce a desktop-like environment on an external display.
In other words, the OntheGo Foldable Stand Hub is trying to give tablets a bit of desktop DNA without sacrificing portability. It will not replace a full desktop computer, but for people who rely heavily on tablets, it could make working away from a traditional desk a lot easier.
The Satechi OntheGo Foldable Stand Hub is available now from Amazon for $79.99 in a Space Black finish.
