NETGEAR unveils Nighthawk 5G M7 hotspot with WiFi 7 and global eSIM support

NETGEAR is planning to kick off 2026 with a gadget aimed squarely at travelers, remote workers, and anyone tired of bad hotel WiFi. The Nighthawk 5G M7 Portable WiFi 7 Hotspot is a compact little box that pushes fast wireless speeds, supports both physical SIM and eSIM, and ties everything together with a revamped mobile app and an in-app eSIM marketplace.

NETGEAR says it works in more than 140 countries, so whether you’re flying internationally or just hiding from weak cellular coverage at the in-laws’ house, it should keep you online without much fuss.

The M7 moves a lot of data for something you can slip in a coat pocket. It promises WiFi 7 performance up to 3.6Gbps and can handle up to 32 connected devices, which is probably overkill for a family trip but still comforting to know. It supports USB-C and even offers optional Ethernet via an adapter, making it useful for laptops and travel routers. A 3850mAh battery provides up to 10 hours of runtime, and yes, the M7 can act as a power bank too, so it doubles as a last-minute charger when your phone dips into the danger zone.

NETGEAR is also rolling out something new: its own eSIM Marketplace. Within the updated mobile app, users can browse and purchase data plans from 3GB to 20GB and activate them instantly, avoiding airport kiosks or overpriced roaming fees. NETGEAR partnered with Gigs for the initial rollout, and the hotspot stays fully unlocked, so you can still drop in a physical SIM or any third-party eSIM if you prefer your own carrier. Certified support for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon helps make the M7 a flexible option for U.S. users.

Security wasn’t ignored either. The hotspot packs WPA3, built-in firewall tools, NETGEAR’s Advanced Router Protection, automatic firmware updates, and the ability to hide SSIDs or filter MAC addresses. The bright 2.4 inch screen shows signal details and battery status, and the new app covers network setup, data tracking, device management, and purchasing eSIM plans. It’s designed to feel more like a travel hub than a generic hotspot.

The M7 launches in January 2026 for $499.99, which puts it in premium-travel-router territory. But if you live on planes, rely on mobile connectivity for work, or just want to dodge unreliable public WiFi, this compact WiFi 7 device might earn a place in your backpack.
