If you’ve ever wished Chrome on Android were a little more thumb-friendly, Google just made a small but welcome change. You can now move the address bar to the bottom of the screen. This tweak may not sound like a big deal, but for people using larger phones, it can be a game-changer.
The logic is simple. With the address bar at the bottom, it’s easier to reach with one hand. Whether you’re juggling a coffee or just hate stretching your thumb across a giant screen, this new option is clearly about improving usability. Google even says it wants to offer flexibility so users can browse more comfortably.
To try it out, just long-press the address bar and tap “Move address bar to bottom.” Or head into Chrome’s Settings, choose “address bar,” and pick your preferred position.
But here’s the thing. While the bottom placement does make ergonomic sense, switching can feel unnatural. Muscle memory is a powerful thing. I gave a similar setup a try on Safari for iPhone when Apple pushed the address bar downward by default. I thought I’d stick with it, but after a few days, I moved it back up. My thumb liked it, but my brain didn’t.
This new feature is rolling out starting today and should be available to everyone within the next few weeks. Give it a shot and see if your fingers or your habits win.
