Dynabook is targeting professionals who want a full-featured business laptop without the usual travel weight. The company has introduced the Portégé X30L-P, a 13.3-inch laptop that weighs just 910 grams, or roughly 2 pounds.
The new machine combines Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, Copilot+ PC features, enterprise security tools, and a magnesium alloy chassis designed for business users who spend a lot of time away from a desk.
At a time when many laptops continue getting heavier as manufacturers add larger batteries, cooling systems, and more powerful hardware, Dynabook is taking a different approach by focusing on portability.
The Portégé X30L-P features a 13.3-inch 16:10 WUXGA display, giving users extra vertical space for documents, spreadsheets, and multitasking. The dark blue magnesium alloy chassis is designed to meet MIL-STD-810H durability testing standards, making it better suited for frequent travel and hybrid work environments.
Under the hood, the laptop uses Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with integrated Intel Graphics. Configurations can include up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory and up to 2TB of SSD storage, which should provide enough headroom for demanding business applications, large files, and heavy multitasking.
The biggest selling point, arguably, is the addition of Copilot+ PC capabilities.
Dynabook says the Portégé X30L-P includes AI-powered features such as Click to Do, Live Captions, Windows Studio Effects, and other on-device AI tools. A dedicated Microsoft Copilot key is also included for quickly accessing Microsoft’s AI assistant.
The laptop also uses AI for practical business features, including webcam enhancements, noise reduction, and battery optimization. Those features are aimed at workers who spend much of their day in video meetings.
Security is another major focus. The Portégé X30L-P is a Microsoft Secured-core PC and includes hardware, firmware, and software protections designed for enterprise environments. Users can configure biometric authentication options including fingerprint and facial recognition.
Connectivity is also strong for a thin-and-light machine. The laptop includes Intel Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, USB Type-A ports, and a microSD card slot. Dynabook also offers docking solutions for users who want a more traditional desktop setup with multiple displays and accessories.
The company is clearly positioning the Portégé X30L-P as a premium alternative to heavier corporate laptops from larger competitors. Its combination of lightweight design, enterprise security, and AI features puts it directly against business machines like Lenovo ThinkPad X1 models, Dell Latitude systems, and HP EliteBooks.
The biggest drawback may simply be the price. The Portégé X30L-P starts at $1,650, putting it firmly in premium business laptop territory.
For professionals who prioritize portability above everything else, a roughly 2-pound laptop with modern Intel hardware and Copilot+ features could be appealing. Whether businesses are ready to pay a premium for another wave of AI-focused PCs, however, is still an open question.
