Sony is taking a surprisingly fashion forward approach with its latest premium headphones. Instead of throwing around buzzwords or pretending every new feature will change your life, the company is focusing on materials, comfort, and sound quality with the newly announced 1000X THE COLLEXION.
Yes, “COLLEXION” is apparently stylized with an X. Folks can decide for themselves whether that name sounds cool or a little forced.

According to Sony, the new headphones are meant to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 1000X series, which has become one of the company’s most recognizable audio product lines over the years. Sony says the new model combines premium craftsmanship, upgraded comfort, and refined tuning aimed at listeners who care as much about aesthetics as they do sound.

The company is putting a lot of emphasis on the design here. The headphones feature vegan leather, matte sandblasted metal accents, polished finishes, and a wider cushioned headband that is supposed to make long listening sessions more comfortable. Sony even says the leather material took two years to develop, which honestly feels like the sort of detail luxury brands love to mention when trying to justify high prices.
Inside, Sony says the headphones use a newly developed driver with a carbon composite dome designed to improve instrument separation and widen the soundstage. The company also brought in GRAMMY winning and nominated mastering engineers to help tune the audio profile.

One feature that could actually interest some listeners is the inclusion of DSEE Ultimate, which uses AI processing to upscale compressed music files in real time. Whether that makes a dramatic difference probably depends on your ears, your music source, and how much faith you put into AI touching your audio in the first place.
Like the existing Sony WH-1000XM6, the new COLLEXION model includes Sony’s flagship active noise canceling system with 12 microphones and Adaptive NC Optimizer. Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours with noise canceling enabled.

Sony is also introducing a new Sandstone color option for the WH-1000XM6. The softer neutral shade honestly looks pretty sharp, and for many buyers, that may end up being the more practical option compared to dropping nearly $650 on the COLLEXION branding exercise.
And yes, the pricing is steep. The 1000X THE COLLEXION headphones can be had from Amazon for $649.99, while the WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone (plus a $30 gift card) can be had for just $398 from Amazon.
