Fastmail users finally have a native way to access their email, calendars, and contacts on their computers. The privacy-focused email provider has launched a dedicated desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, offering the same interface as its web and mobile versions but with tighter integration and offline support.
This means you can now keep Fastmail pinned to your dock or taskbar, open it directly from your app switcher, and even set it as your default mail client. Clicking an email link will now launch a new message in Fastmail instead of your browser. The app also supports offline mode, letting you read messages, write drafts, and manage your calendar without an internet connection. Everything syncs back once you reconnect.
The company says the new desktop app feels native on every operating system, including proper notifications, system menus, and platform conventions. For Linux fans, it’s particularly refreshing to see a first-class email client that isn’t an afterthought. To get started, users simply download the app for their platform and sign in with their Fastmail credentials.
While this update doesn’t change Fastmail’s core experience, it does bring focus and convenience to users who prefer native apps over browser tabs. Given that Fastmail is already known for its commitment to privacy and open standards, adding a full-featured desktop option makes it an even more appealing choice for users who value independence from the big tech email platforms.
