If you have ever been anywhere near a SOUNDBOKS speaker, you already know what you are dealing with. These things are not background music machines. They are loud, borderline ridiculous, and honestly kind of fun because of it. So when the company says its new Soundboks Mix is built for “everyday” use, I had to stop and think about what that even means.
Because let’s be real here, folks. A speaker that can hit 121 dB is not exactly what most people would call casual.
SOUNDBOKS is trying to position the Mix as its most balanced product yet. It wants to be powerful enough for parties, but still manageable enough for more normal situations like hanging out in the backyard or having friends over. In theory, that sounds like a smart move. Not everyone wants a full-on party cannon all the time.
Still, this is very much a SOUNDBOKS product at its core. Even if it is more portable than the company’s other models, you are not slipping this into a backpack and forgetting about it. It is something you carry with intention. It shows up, and people notice.
The specs are exactly what you would expect from the brand. You get up to 121 dB of output, which is honestly overkill for indoor use unless you are trying to annoy your neighbors. Outdoors, though, it probably makes a lot more sense. The company says the custom acoustic system keeps things clean even when you crank it, but that is something that needs real-world testing. Loud is easy. Loud and good is a different story.
Battery life is actually pretty impressive. Up to 40 hours at moderate volume is nothing to sneeze at, and even eight hours at full blast is respectable. The swappable battery is a big deal too. That is one of those features you do not think about until you need it, and then suddenly it becomes essential.
Durability is clearly part of the appeal. The Mix has an IP65 rating, which means it should handle dust and splashes without issue. The rugged design, complete with reinforced corners, looks like it can take a beating. That makes sense for a speaker that is likely to end up at tailgates, parks, and who knows where else.
There is also a companion app, because of course there is. You can tweak EQ settings, switch sound profiles, and lock the speaker. Nothing groundbreaking, but useful. The TeamUp feature is where things get a little wild. You can link up to five compatible SOUNDBOKS speakers together. If one of these is not loud enough, I am not sure what to tell you.
One small but nice touch is the customizable front grill. It is not a must-have feature, but it adds a bit of personality to something that is otherwise all about raw output and durability.
So yeah, is this an everyday speaker? Maybe for a certain kind of person. If your version of everyday includes pre-games, outdoor hangouts, and music that you can feel in your chest, then sure. For everyone else, this might be more speaker than you actually need.
The Soundboks Mix is available from Amazon now for $799. That is a lot of money for a Bluetooth speaker, but then again, this is not trying to be just another Bluetooth speaker.
