HD Hyundai makes its AI bet official at Davos with expanded Palantir deal

HD Hyundai is using a moment of global attention to lock in its next phase of industrial transformation. You see, as business and political leaders gather in Davos, the company is expanding its partnership with Palantir and turning years of AI experiments into group wide infrastructure.

The move comes as Chairman Chung Kisun attends the World Economic Forum for the fourth consecutive year, where artificial intelligence and energy transition have become inseparable topics. Rather than talking about AI as a future concept, HD Hyundai is showing how it is already being woven into the daily operations of shipyards, factories, and energy systems.

The partnership with Palantir began in 2021 at HD Hyundai Oilbank, focused on practical problems like refinery efficiency, crude oil selection, predictive maintenance, and sensor data analysis. Those deployments proved AI could work in harsh, complex industrial environments. From there, the relationship expanded into shipbuilding and construction equipment, where Palantir’s Foundry platform now supports the company’s Future of Shipyard initiative by connecting planning, design, and production into a single operational system.

That same backbone is now spreading across the entire group. Electric systems, robotics, and marine aftermarket services are being integrated into the same data framework, with several affiliates using Palantir’s Foundry and Artificial Intelligence Platform for the first time. What began as targeted projects is now becoming standard infrastructure for HD Hyundai.

While in Davos, Chung has been meeting with global leaders to discuss how AI is reshaping industry and why energy accessibility, resilience, and intelligent systems are becoming core pillars of future growth. He has also been addressing the risk of slowing global growth amid geopolitical shifts and the role technology must play in keeping industrial economies competitive.

During the forum, Chung met with Palantir co founder and CEO Alex Karp to formalize the expansion of the partnership. The agreement deepens cooperation across key affiliates including HD Hyundai Electric, HD Hyundai Robotics, and HD Hyundai Marine Solution, extending AI driven coordination across shipbuilding, offshore operations, energy, and heavy equipment.

“This expanded strategic partnership marks an important turning point in connecting data and workflows across HD Hyundai into a single, cohesive system, enabling faster and more sophisticated decision making,” said Chung Kisun, Chairman of HD Hyundai. He added, “Palantir is a partner with globally proven capabilities in data integration, operational optimization, and AI driven analytics, and will add strength in executing HD Hyundai’s digital transformation.”

Karp described the expansion as a long term industrial commitment rather than a simple software rollout. “HD Hyundai is a pioneering force in global industry, and the significant expansion of our partnership marks an exciting new chapter,” said Dr. Alex Karp, co founder and CEO of Palantir Technologies. “We are committed to advancing our strategic collaboration and driving the group’s competitiveness, and we look forward to continue building together.”

Looking ahead, the two companies plan to establish a joint Center of Excellence for Foundry and AIP, aimed at training employees across HD Hyundai to work directly with advanced analytics and AI systems. The goal is to make AI part of everyday decision making rather than something limited to specialist teams.

For Palantir, this is its largest and longest running partnership in Korea and a clear signal that its platforms are becoming core industrial infrastructure. For HD Hyundai, it is a bet that smarter coordination, better energy systems, and AI driven operations will define its next era of competitiveness. Davos just provided the backdrop for making that bet public.
