Zorin OS is back with one of its biggest update in years. The developers have released the beta version of Zorin OS 18, and it’s shaping up to be the most polished and practical release yet. With Windows 10 hitting end of life on October 14, 2025, millions of PCs that don’t qualify for Windows 11 will soon be in limbo. Zorin’s team clearly sees an opportunity to step in, and this beta is aimed squarely at those users who need a modern operating system without buying new hardware.
Zorin has long pitched itself as the most Windows-friendly Linux option, and version 18 doubles down on that. It introduces a fresh design with rounded panels, lighter accents, and more visual polish. Even built-in apps like Files, Settings, Calendar, Evolution, and the new Camera app have been redesigned for a cleaner look.
One of the most impressive changes is a revamped window tiling system. Instead of memorizing shortcuts, you can drag a window to the top of the screen and choose a predefined layout. Power users can still define their own tiling schemes and shortcuts, but beginners get an intuitive way to multitask without a learning curve.
Cloud integration also gets better. Zorin OS 18 brings OneDrive support right into the Files app, so migrating Windows users can immediately access their cloud files. On top of that, a new Web Apps tool turns any website into a desktop app, meaning Office 365, Google Docs, and even Photoshop’s web edition can be pinned alongside native apps.
Another smart addition is app guidance for Windows refugees. The system now detects over 170 Windows installers and points users toward native Linux alternatives or the best way to run the software. That could be a huge help for people who might otherwise give up in frustration.
Other highlights include expanded hardware support, better audio thanks to PipeWire, RDP-based remote login, new theme colors, and three upcoming desktop layouts for the Pro edition, including options styled like Linux Mint and elementary OS. Zorin OS 18 is backed by long-term support until 2029, making it a safe choice for businesses and schools.
Of course, this is still beta software. Some pieces, like wallpapers and the new welcome tour, aren’t in place yet. But early testers can already see that Zorin OS 18 feels faster, looks more refined, and offers a clear path forward for people stuck on aging Windows 10 systems.
You can download the Zorin OS 18 Beta today, but don’t install it on your main machine just yet. The stable release should land in the coming weeks.
