Transcend has introduced a new PCIe Gen5 SSD, and it is fast. Called the MTE260S, this solid state drive uses the latest NVMe 2.0 standard and supports sequential read speeds of up to 14000MB/s and write speeds up to 11000MB/s. It’s designed for high-end desktops, laptops, and systems used for content creation or AI tasks.
The drive supports PCIe Gen5 x4 and is backward compatible with older platforms, though users will need a compatible motherboard to fully benefit from its speed. Transcend says it uses a 6nm controller and incorporates a thin graphene heatsink designed to improve thermal performance without requiring a large heatsink or fan.
Offered in the M.2 2280 form factor, the MTE260S is currently available in capacities up to 2TB. According to the company, higher-capacity versions are planned for future release. The SSD is intended for users who want faster boot times, quicker file transfers, and improved responsiveness in tasks such as video editing or gaming.
The MTE260S is also compatible with Transcend’s SSD Scope software. This tool gives users access to features such as drive health monitoring, firmware updates, and performance tuning. Having included software may appeal to users looking to track the condition of their drive or extend its service life.
Manufactured in Taiwan, the drive comes with a five-year limited warranty. It has gone through in-house testing for reliability, which may appeal to those focused on long-term use.
Pricing and availability details have not yet been shared, but the MTE260S is expected to be sold through Amazon and other online retailers.
