Windows 11 PowerToys overhaul teased by Microsoft with sleek new UI

Microsoft is rethinking the PowerToys dashboard, and the change can’t come soon enough. The current interface has become increasingly difficult to use as new modules have been bolted on over time. Now, software engineer Niels Laute has shared a concept on GitHub that shows what a streamlined redesign could look like.

The new design aligns more closely with the Windows 11 Settings app, aiming to make the dashboard easier to navigate and more user-friendly. Instead of clicking through cluttered menus, users would see a full list of modules with simple toggles to turn them on or off. Each toggle links directly to the module’s individual settings page.

Another part of the redesign includes a central list of all PowerToys shortcuts, so users can easily find and remember them. For a utility suite that relies so heavily on hotkeys, that change alone could improve usability.

At the top of the new layout are quick-launch buttons for modules like PowerToys Run, giving users fast access to tools that can be triggered directly without opening additional windows.

The concept is still early, and Microsoft hasn’t committed to a release date. But based on Laute’s comments, the team is actively working on improving the user experience. If this vision becomes reality, PowerToys could finally feel like it belongs in the Windows 11 ecosystem.
