This .xyz domain just sold for nearly $95,000

The humble .com may still be king of the internet, but alternative domain extensions have become increasingly difficult to dismiss. Case in point: someone was willing to spend almost $100,000 to get their hands on Buzz.xyz.

According to XYZ Registry’s July 2026 Domains Report, Buzz.xyz sold on the aftermarket for a whopping $94,999. The sale was reported by NameBio and absolutely dwarfed the other .xyz aftermarket transactions highlighted for the month. Polaris.xyz came in second at $13,519, followed by Charge.xyz at $9,500, Mission.xyz at $7,877, and Pulls.xyz at $6,999.

In fact, XYZ Registry says the total reported value of .xyz aftermarket sales during July was $192,947, with an average price of $1,873.27. That means the Buzz.xyz transaction alone accounted for nearly half of the reported dollar volume.

So, what exactly is Buzz? As we previously reported, Buzz.xyz is a collaboration platform from Block, the financial technology company co-founded by Jack Dorsey. The platform is designed around group communication for teams, but with a very 2026 twist: AI agents can participate in shared channels alongside humans.

In other words, this isn’t simply a domain investor spending $94,999 in hopes of flipping the address for even more money later. Buzz.xyz is being put to use as the home of an actual technology product from a well-known company.

There is also something undeniably attractive about the domain itself. “Buzz” is short, memorable, easy to spell, and relevant to communication. Pairing it with .xyz results in an address that doesn’t really feel like a compromise made because Buzz.com wasn’t available. Buzz.xyz feels intentional.

I’ll admit to having a soft spot for .xyz domains. NERDS itself lives at NERDS.xyz, and I love the address. When choosing a home for this site, I could have gone hunting for a longer or less memorable .com, but NERDS.xyz felt like a better fit. It is short, weird, geeky, and easy to remember.

There are plenty of terrible .xyz domains, of course, just as there are plenty of terrible .com domains. An extension doesn’t magically make the words preceding it valuable. Buzz.xyz happens to combine an excellent word with an extension that has gained considerable visibility in technology and cryptocurrency circles.

The rest of XYZ Registry’s July numbers offer some additional perspective. The company says 83 premium domains across the extensions it operates were registered during the month. For .xyz specifically, the highest-priced premium registration listed was YC.xyz at a $3,000 annual MSRP. Other premium registrations included Moto.xyz and TUV.xyz at $1,300, along with Fail.xyz and Please.xyz at $700.

The $94,999 Buzz.xyz transaction is an aftermarket sale rather than one of those premium registrations, an important distinction when looking at the numbers.

Nobody should see this sale and assume the random .xyz domain sitting in their registrar account is suddenly worth six figures. Domain values can vary enormously depending on the word, length, potential buyers, and plain old luck.

Still, $94,999 is real money. And when a company such as Block is willing to attach a new product to Buzz.xyz, it is another reminder that .com doesn’t have a monopoly on desirable internet addresses.
