There comes a point in life when you realize your arms suddenly are not long enough to read a menu anymore. Apparently, Sharper Image sees an opportunity in that moment.
The company has teamed up with Foster Grant for a new collection of reading glasses that tries to add some gadget appeal to something many of us eventually need whether we like it or not.
And somehow, this collaboration makes perfect sense.
For decades, Sharper Image built its reputation selling quirky gadgets and tech products people absolutely did not need but wanted anyway. Now the brand is attaching its name to reading glasses with magnetic sunglass clips, foldable frames, and even a carrying case with a built-in flashlight. That last one especially feels very on-brand for Sharper Image.

The flashlight case sounds silly until you actually stop and think about it. Dim restaurant lighting is basically public enemy number one for people wearing readers. Suddenly the tiny built-in light starts sounding less gimmicky and more genuinely useful.
The magnetic sun clip model is probably the smartest idea in the lineup. Instead of juggling separate sunglasses or awkward clip-ons that look like they came from a gas station in the late 1990s, these use polarized magnetic shades that snap into place quickly. It is simple, practical, and kind of clever.
Then there are the compact folding readers, which seem aimed directly at travelers and gadget nerds who appreciate tiny engineered things. The included ultra-thin case almost feels like something you would have bought from a Sharper Image mall store years ago alongside a massage chair and a universal remote nobody could ever fully figure out.

Foster Grant also talks up the “Tech Reader” frames, which use memory metal and flexible stainless steel components for durability and comfort. The wording gets a little heavy on marketing speak there, but if the glasses survive being bent, dropped, or stuffed into a backpack pocket, that is probably enough for most folks.
What makes this collaboration interesting is not necessarily the glasses themselves. It is what they represent. A lot of the same people who once obsessed over Sharper Image gadgets are now old enough to need readers. Time catches up with everybody eventually.
