Acer Predator Helios Neo laptops get refreshed with Intel Core Ultra 200HX Plus and RTX 5080 graphics

Acer is taking another swing at the high-end gaming laptop crowd with refreshed Predator Helios Neo models, and yeah, this one is all about big specs. The company is rolling out three updated machines, the Predator Helios Neo 16S AI, Helios Neo 16 AI, and Helios Neo 18 AI, all powered by Intel Core Ultra 200HX Plus processors and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPUs.

If you are the type of person that wants desktop-like power but still needs something you can fold up and carry, this is clearly who Acer is targeting. Whether laptops can ever truly replace a desktop is still up for debate, but these specs at least try to make that argument.

The Helios Neo 16S AI is the slim one, coming in under 18.9mm thick. That is pretty thin for something that can be configured with an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and RTX 5080 graphics. Acer pairs that with a 16-inch OLED display running at 240Hz with a 1ms response time. On paper, that is excellent for fast-paced games, though thinner designs always make me wonder how well cooling holds up when things get pushed hard.

The standard Helios Neo 16 AI is a bit more traditional. It keeps the same general performance ceiling but with a slightly thicker build. You still get up to the same CPU and GPU, plus an OLED display, although this one runs at 165Hz instead of 240Hz. That difference probably will not matter to most people, but it is there. Acer also includes Killer Ethernet E3100 and Thunderbolt 4, which is nice to see for folks who care about wired networking or fast external devices.

Then there is the Helios Neo 18 AI. This one is pretty clearly meant to sit on a desk most of the time. The 18-inch display runs at 240Hz and includes what Acer calls Ambient Contrast Ratio film, which is supposed to reduce glare. That could actually be useful depending on your lighting setup, though I would not expect miracles.

Cooling is always the elephant in the room with gaming laptops, and Acer is once again leaning on its AeroBlade 3D fans, liquid metal thermal grease, and vector heat pipes. That all sounds good, but as always, real-world performance will come down to how well it sustains clocks under load and not just short bursts.

Acer is also leaning hard into AI features here, which feels unavoidable at this point. PredatorSense handles system tuning and lighting, while something called Acer Intelligence Space bundles tools like Game Assistant and ProCam. The idea of AI helping with aiming in shooters is… interesting. Whether gamers actually want that is another question entirely.

Specs elsewhere are solid. You can go up to 64GB of DDR5 memory and 2TB of PCIe Gen4 storage. Ports are plentiful too, including Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, multiple USB ports, Ethernet, and even a microSD card slot. That is one area where Acer did not cut corners.

All three models use a 92Wh battery, but let’s be honest, nobody is buying one of these for unplugged use. If you get a few hours away from the wall, that is probably a win.

The Predator Helios Neo 16S AI, 16 AI, and 18 AI are expected to land in North America in July 2026. Pricing has not been announced yet, which usually means it is going to be expensive. Given the hardware inside, that should not surprise anyone.
