Getty Images joins forces with Perplexity to bring licensed photos to AI search results

Getty Images and Perplexity have announced a new global partnership that will bring Getty’s massive library of creative and editorial images to Perplexity’s AI-powered search tools. The multi-year deal lets Perplexity display high-quality visuals directly in its answers using Getty’s API, aiming to make AI-driven discovery more visually engaging and legally sound.

The companies say the integration will improve how users experience and understand images online. Perplexity plans to include proper credits and direct links to sources for each image, an approach Getty hopes will set a standard for attribution in AI products. Getty’s Nick Unsworth said the partnership “acknowledges the importance of properly attributed content,” while Perplexity’s Jessica Chan emphasized that “attribution and accuracy are fundamental” in the AI era.

This agreement follows growing pressure for AI platforms to respect content rights as they integrate media into generative experiences. For Getty, it is another win in securing its position as a visual rights leader in the age of AI. For Perplexity, the deal helps it compete more credibly with giants like Google and OpenAI by making its answers not just textually rich, but visually authentic.
