
Apple just dropped a massive announcement. The company is committing $600 billion to invest in the American economy over the next four years. This new effort, called the American Manufacturing Program, is focused on building more iPhone parts in the U.S., expanding chip production, and hiring thousands of American workers. It covers everything from glass manufacturing in Kentucky to AI servers in Texas.
As someone who cares about American jobs and values, I’m honestly thrilled. It’s about time a company like Apple decided to invest heavily at home instead of shipping so much work overseas. And let’s be clear, this didn’t happen in a vacuum. President Trump has been pushing Apple for years to bring manufacturing back to the United States. Now that he’s in office again, it’s great to see this vision finally take shape.
The biggest news is Apple’s deepened partnership with Corning. Apple is investing $2.5 billion into Corning’s facility in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. That factory will now produce one hundred percent of the cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches sold around the world. For the first time ever, all of that glass will be made right here in America.
This move will increase Corning’s workforce in Kentucky by fifty percent. It will also lead to the creation of a new Apple-Corning Innovation Center on site. That center will focus on developing advanced materials and new ways to manufacture glass for future Apple products.
This partnership also supports other areas of Apple’s growing U.S. supply chain. Corning’s silicon materials are used by GlobalWafers America to make wafers for Apple’s chips. Apple is working with TSMC in Arizona to fabricate chips, Amkor in Arizona to package them, and Texas Instruments in Utah and Texas for further chip production. Samsung is helping Apple launch a new chipmaking process in Austin that has never been used anywhere else.
Apple says this domestic supply chain will produce over nineteen billion chips in 2025. These chips power everything from iPhones to Apple’s new artificial intelligence systems.
On the AI side, Apple is already test-building its own servers in Houston. These servers will power Apple Intelligence and are being assembled at a 250,000-square-foot facility that begins mass production next year. These aren’t generic cloud machines. They are designed by Apple engineers and built using Apple silicon with privacy and security baked in.
Apple is also expanding its data centers in North Carolina, Iowa, Nevada, and Oregon to support the growing demand for cloud services and AI. In Detroit, Apple’s new Manufacturing Academy opens this month. It will help small and medium businesses adopt advanced manufacturing and AI tools.
And in Austin, Apple continues to build out its second campus. It will house teams working on hardware, software, and silicon, and will eventually support thousands of employees. Apple already employs more than 13,000 people in Texas.
The company says it will hire 20,000 more workers across the country in the next four years. Most of those roles will focus on research and development, AI, silicon engineering, and software.
This all comes the same day OpenAI announced it would provide ChatGPT Enterprise to the entire federal government for one dollar per agency. That deal, combined with Apple’s new investments, shows that tech giants are starting to lean into public service and national interests more seriously than they have in years.
There’s no denying how great this is. Look, Apple is spending real money, building real infrastructure, and creating real jobs. That’s good news for workers, good news for national security, and good news for anyone tired of seeing critical technology made elsewhere.
