Nintendo Switch 2 sells 3.5 million units in 4 days making it the fastest selling console in company history

Nintendo has another monster hit on its hands. The new Switch 2 has officially become the fastest-selling console in the company’s history, moving over 3.5 million units globally in just its first four days. That’s not just impressive, folks, it’s historic.

The Switch 2 launched on June 5 and brings with it a mix of powerful upgrades and thoughtful refinements. We’re talking a vivid 1080p screen for handheld mode, 4K output when docked, faster internals for smoother performance, and brand new magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers that even include mouse-like precision.

One really cool feature is GameChat, which finally brings native voice and video chat plus screen sharing. It makes multiplayer feel more like hanging out together in person than ever before.

Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s president and COO, acknowledged the enthusiasm from fans, saying, “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”

I picked up a Switch 2 myself and I have to say, it lives up to the hype. Mario Kart World, which launched alongside the system, is nothing short of phenomenal. With an expansive open-world setup, unpredictable weather, and up to 24 players racing at once, it’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played. It feels like the next evolution of the franchise and a reason alone to buy the system.

And the momentum won’t slow down anytime soon. On July 17, Nintendo will launch Donkey Kong Bananza, a new 3D action platformer exclusive to Switch 2. Judging by early buzz, it’s shaping up to be another crowd-pleaser.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is available now for $449.99, or you can snag the Mario Kart World bundle for $499.99. Based on what I’ve seen so far, this thing isn’t just a launch success… it’s the start of another long Nintendo winning streak.
