Comedy Central had a new South Park episode slated for tonight, but fans tuning in will be greeted with a rerun instead. In a statement, Trey Parker and Matt Stone admitted they missed the deadline: “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done.” That explanation fits the show’s history, as the creators have famously cut it close before.

Still, the timing raises eyebrows. Just weeks ago, South Park aired “Got a Nut,” an episode that lampooned Charlie Kirk with Cartman delivering right-wing style rants. Kirk, who was brutally assassinated earlier this month, had actually brushed it off as a badge of honor when it aired. But following his death, Comedy Central removed the episode from its linear schedule. It remains available on Paramount+ and On Demand, however.

Now, with a brand-new episode suddenly delayed, the question surfaces: is this just Parker and Stone falling behind again, or is the network exercising caution in light of the Kirk parody? Comedy Central hasn’t made any connection between the two events, but the coincidence is hard to ignore…

The show is set to return on Wednesday, September 24 at 10pm ET/PT, with more new episodes airing October 15, October 29, November 12, November 26, and December 10. For now, the fate of “Got a Nut” on Comedy Central’s regular schedule remains uncertain.
