ONLYOFFICE 9.0 brings powerful AI features and diagram support to Linux, macOS, and Windows

A new version of the popular office suite has landed, and looks like a good one. ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v9.0 is now available for Linux, macOS, and Windows, delivering a fresh coat of paint along with some genuinely useful improvements. If you’ve been thinking about ditching Microsoft Office or Google Docs, this release deserves your attention.

The interface has been completely reworked. You now get a choice between Modern Light and Modern Dark themes, both of which bring a cleaner and more refined look. The goal seems to be making things easier to navigate without dumbing anything down. Even the start window got a facelift, stripping away the clutter so you can just get to work.

There’s also a new Diagram Viewer built right in. This means you can open files like .vsdx directly inside ONLYOFFICE, no third-party software needed. If you work with technical diagrams or charts, this is a major time saver. Other new file types are supported too, including Markdown, OpenDocument graphics, and .xlsb spreadsheets without any conversions.

The real headline-grabber, though, is the push into artificial intelligence. ONLYOFFICE now has built-in OCR to pull text from scanned PDFs, smart tools to help with spreadsheet formulas, and the ability to generate macros from a written prompt. You can even convert old-school VBA macros into ONLYOFFICE format in just a few clicks. It’s clear the developers want this suite to do more than just mimic its commercial rivals.

PDF editing has improved as well. Reordering pages is now as simple as drag and drop, and duplicating them works with a standard copy-paste shortcut. Presentations now support text animations in slideshow mode, and spreadsheets benefit from asynchronous calculations, making larger files more responsive.

There’s also better support for RTL languages. Arabic users in particular will notice smoother behavior in spreadsheets and presentations. Urdu is now supported too, and the Chinese and Hindi interfaces have received small but thoughtful improvements.

For Linux users, there are two welcome changes. First, you can now enable or disable spelling language detection, which is helpful if you’re switching between languages while typing. Second, you can print documents without having to deal with the system dialogue, which saves a few steps.

The Windows version also sees better file association handling. During installation, you can now choose which formats to link to ONLYOFFICE, rather than having it take over everything by default.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v9.0 is available to download right now here. If you’re on Linux, you’ll want to grab the standard installer, but Snap, Flatpak, and AppImage builds are expected soon. This update feels like more than just maintenance. It’s a thoughtful, user-focused release that shows ONLYOFFICE is still very much in the game.
