The Wine team has pushed out development release 10.16, and it’s a notable one for Linux users who rely on Windows compatibility. The update introduces fast synchronization through NTSync, brings 16-bit applications to the newer WoW64 mode, and adds early handling of D3DKMT objects. Developers will also notice that Wine now generates and installs WinMD files.

As usual, bug fixes make up a large part of the release. A total of 34 issues have been resolved, covering a wide range of software and games. Titles like Need for Speed III, Shadow Company, SimCity 2000, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City all see long-standing problems addressed. Fixes also touch tools such as VbsEdit, Lotus Word Pro, and even iTunes image rendering.

The release also includes translation updates, work on DirectMusic, Direct3D, and xmllite improvements, plus adjustments to Wine’s handling of synchronization, threading, and exception management. Users can grab the source from WineHQ. Binary builds will soon be available from distribution maintainers.
