A new version of the popular open source torrent client qBittorrent has landed. Version 5.1.2 is now available to download, and while it might not look like much at first glance, there’s more going on under the hood than users might expect. This release includes security patches that affect the WebAPI, RSS, and Search modules. Anyone using those features should consider upgrading immediately.
We recently covered the launch of qBittorrent 5.1.1, and at that time, users ran into confusion over where to actually get the software. That same issue still hasn’t been resolved. For now, downloads are hosted exclusively on SourceForge. The usual mirror at FossHub is unavailable, either due to a locked developer account or unresolved login issues. No official update has been shared, leaving users once again in the dark.
Beyond the security improvements, version 5.1.2 includes a handful of smaller updates aimed at stability and polish. A fallback mechanism has been added to handle update failures. This should help users who rely on in-app updates avoid getting stuck on older versions.
The WebUI has been adjusted to fix bugs that were introduced by incorrectly backported changes. There’s also a tweak to the WebAPI that trims leading whitespace when using the “Run External Program” fields. These are the kinds of subtle improvements that make a difference for power users who customize workflows.
The RSS and Search modules received a fix to prevent local files from being opened when only web pages are expected. That change reduces the risk of unintended behavior or misuse, especially for users who rely on automated feed handling.
On macOS, a long-requested behavior has been added. The app will now fully quit when the main window is closed, aligning with how most macOS software works. That change should make the experience feel more consistent for Mac users, though the new build for macOS is not available yet.
It’s not a flashy update, but it’s one that shows the developers are still paying close attention. The persistent download confusion, however, continues to be a point of friction. New users especially may be unsure which source to trust when FossHub is missing in action.
For now, Windows and Linux users interested in upgrading can grab qBittorrent 5.1.2 from SourceForge here. macOS users will have to sit tight, as there’s no ETA on when a new version will be ready.
