IBM is back in the spotlight with the launch of Power11, its newest generation of enterprise servers built for the AI era. Announced today from both Armonk and Munich, Power11 is designed for nonstop uptime, faster workloads, and smarter automation. All while keeping critical systems online.
IBM says Power11 delivers 99.9999 percent uptime and zero planned downtime thanks to autonomous operations. The servers can patch themselves, shift workloads automatically, and stay running during updates. That means less disruption and fewer headaches for IT departments.
For the first time, IBM is launching its entire Power11 lineup at once. That includes high-end, mid-range, and entry-level models, plus Power Virtual Server in IBM Cloud. Power11 is also the first Power platform to support IBM’s upcoming Spyre Accelerator chip. That AI-focused silicon is expected to land later this year.

AI is front and center with Power11. The platform features on-chip AI acceleration and works with Red Hat OpenShift AI, watsonx tools, and open-source ecosystems. IBM also plans to bring its watsonx.data lakehouse to Power11 before the end of 2025.
On the security side, IBM is touting under-one-minute ransomware threat detection with its Cyber Vault feature. Power11 includes quantum-safe cryptography and protects against firmware integrity attacks. Immutable snapshots and automatic threat response are built in.
Performance has been boosted too. IBM claims Power11 offers up to 55 percent better core performance compared to Power9 and up to 45 percent more capacity than Power10. Energy efficiency has improved as well. The new Energy Efficient Mode delivers up to 28 percent better performance per watt versus Power11’s top performance mode, and double that of some x86 alternatives.
Power11 officially launches this month. IBM’s Spyre Accelerator chip is set to arrive in Q4. For businesses needing high availability and AI-ready muscle, Power11 looks like a serious contender.
