PIX11 and SNY extend Mets broadcast deal through 2028, bringing Friday night baseball to more fans

Mets fans won’t need to worry about losing their local broadcasts anytime soon. WPIX-TV (PIX11) announced that it has renewed its broadcast partnership with SNY, ensuring Mets games will remain on PIX11 through the 2028 season. The two have worked together since 2006, and this latest extension stretches that tradition for three more years.

The agreement isn’t just about keeping things the same. For the first time, PIX11’s Mets coverage will expand beyond New York City and reach five additional markets. Nexstar-owned stations in Albany, Binghamton, Syracuse, and Utica, New York, along with Hartford, Connecticut, will carry the games, giving upstate and regional fans a reliable way to catch the Mets without relying on cable. Streaming will also be included for those markets, letting fans watch live on connected devices within their home area.

Under the deal, PIX11 will broadcast 30 Mets games each year between 2026 and 2028. That includes 25 regular season games (mostly on Friday nights under the “Mets Game of the Week” banner) and five spring training matchups. Every game will be preceded by a 30-minute live pregame show to set the stage.

Chris McDonnell, Vice President and General Manager of Nexstar’s New York City operations, said, “As the broadcast home of Mets baseball for more than two decades, PIX11 is proud to extend this winning tradition. Reaching Mets fans in five additional Nexstar markets across upstate New York and in Hartford is a clear demonstration of the enduring power of broadcast television and PIX11’s unique connection to Mets fans across the region.”

Production duties will continue to fall on SNY, which means fans can expect the familiar voices of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling in the booth, along with Steve Gelbs reporting from the field. That continuity keeps one of the sport’s most respected broadcast teams in place.

For Mets fans who grew up watching Friday night games on PIX11, this is a continuation of a tradition. For fans in upstate New York and Connecticut, it’s an overdue chance to join in. And in an era where streaming dominates sports coverage, this deal shows that old-fashioned broadcast TV still has a place.
