Disney+ price hikes may drive cancellations in October

Disney plus price

Disney is about to make streaming a little more expensive. The company has announced upcoming price hikes across several of its Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN bundle plans, with increases set to hit on October 21, 2025. Subscribers who have gotten used to their current rates should brace for higher monthly bills.

The most affordable option, the Disney+ and Hulu bundle with ads, currently costs $10.99 per month, but it will jump to $12.99. For those who prefer ad-free streaming, the Disney+ and Hulu Premium bundle will stay at $19.99 per month for now, at least avoiding an increase this round.

Sports fans won’t be thrilled to learn that the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select bundle is going up by $3. The plan, which now costs $16.99 per month, will rise to $19.99. The premium version, which includes ad-free Disney+ and Hulu but keeps ESPN Select with ads, will climb from $26.99 to $29.99.

Even legacy subscribers aren’t safe. Those still holding on to the “Disney+ Premium, Hulu, ESPN Select Legacy” bundle will see their $21.99 rate increase to $24.99 next month. Disney is no longer offering that plan to new customers, but existing ones can keep it as long as they don’t cancel or switch.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s “Unlimited” bundles are staying put for now. The Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited bundle with ads remains $35.99 per month, while the premium ad-free version is still $44.99. But with Disney’s track record of regular adjustments, it wouldn’t be surprising to see those prices climb in the near future as well.

In my view, Disney needs to be careful here. Consumers are already juggling multiple streaming services, and another round of price hikes could push some to cancel. When people are financially stressed, cutting corners becomes unavoidable, and while I don’t condone piracy, I understand how some may turn to it when legal options feel overpriced. Disney risks driving customers away if it keeps raising rates too aggressively.

With the rising costs of streaming, households are again forced to ask whether it’s worth subscribing to multiple platforms at once or trimming down to save money. Disney is betting that enough fans of Marvel, Star Wars, live sports, and Hulu originals will pay up without hesitation.

  1. If Disney and the other networks were to pay for sports based on the actual viewership, both the networks and the sports would “have skin in the game” concerning consumer prices. I suspect that would lead to lower consumer prices.
