Plugable launches 240W charge-only USB-C cables with built-in data blocking

Plugable has announced three new charge-only USB-C cables that prioritize fast charging and data security. The USBC-CC1M, USBC-CC2M, and USBC-CCS5X all support USB Power Delivery 3.1 Extended Power Range, capable of delivering up to 240W of power for laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other devices.

What sets these cables apart is their physical omission of data lines. Many charging cables retain USB 2.0 connections, leaving users vulnerable to juice jacking attacks. Plugable removes data lines entirely at the hardware level, creating a safer solution for travelers, enterprise users, schools, and anyone concerned about data theft. Unlike traditional data-blocking dongles, these are all-in-one cables that eliminate the need for bulky adapters.

Think of it like this. Let’s say you are in a taxi cab or sitting at the airport and someone offers you a USB port to charge your phone. It might sound convenient, but it could be a sneaky way to steal your data while charging. These Plugable cables make sure that never happens, because the data lines don’t even exist. All you get is safe, fast power.

Each cable includes an integrated E-Marker chip for safe power negotiation. A red connector helps users quickly identify its charge-only function, while a cable tag lists its capabilities for easy reference. The cables use durable TPE construction and come in eco-friendly packaging with compostable inner bags and recyclable boxes. A two-year limited warranty with North American-based support is included.

The lineup offers three options. The USBC-CC1M is a one-meter cable suited for travel and public charging. The USBC-CC2M stretches to two meters for desks, classrooms, and meeting rooms. The USBC-CCS5X is a five-pack of six-inch cables designed for organized charging stations in high-traffic environments.

The Plugable USBC-CC1M, USBC-CC2M, and USBC-CCS5X are available now on Amazon. Pricing starts at $14.95 for the 1M cable, $15.95 for the 2M, and $24.95 for the five-pack of 6-inch cables, with a 20 percent discount currently offered.
