ADT adds glowing Live Light yard sign and My Safety mobile protection to the ADT+ platform

There are a lot of home security companies out there these days. Between DIY alarm kits, camera-heavy smart home systems, and app-based monitoring services, consumers have more choices than ever. Still, when folks picture a home alarm system, one name often pops into their head first: ADT. The company’s blue yard sign has become a symbol of home protection over the decades, and ADT seems ready to give that familiar sign a modern twist.

The company today announced two new additions to its ADT+ platform called Live Light and My Safety. Both are designed to extend security beyond the typical door sensors and cameras, adding smarter alerts around the home and personal protection while people are out and about.

Let’s start with the one I personally find the most interesting.

Live Light is basically the iconic ADT yard sign, but with brains and a light built in. The wireless sign connects directly to the ADT+ system and illuminates automatically when an alarm is triggered. That glow serves two purposes. First, it helps first responders quickly identify the correct house during an emergency. Second, it sends a very clear message to anyone lurking nearby that the home is actively monitored.

I absolutely adore this idea. The ADT sign is already widely recognized, so turning it into an active part of the alarm system instead of just a warning sign feels pretty clever.

The Live Light sign connects wirelessly and can be controlled through the ADT+ app, allowing homeowners to toggle illumination on or off whenever they want. During an alarm event, however, the light activates automatically. ADT says the feature can help emergency responders find the right property faster, especially at night or in neighborhoods where houses look similar.

The illuminated sign will cost $49.99 when installed professionally as part of an ADT system.

The second new feature is called My Safety, and it shifts the focus from protecting a house to protecting the person carrying the phone. Built into the ADT+ app, My Safety essentially connects users to ADT’s nationwide monitoring network wherever they go.

That means the same monitoring infrastructure that watches over homes can now be used when someone is commuting, traveling, or even just heading out for a late-night run.

One feature called Safety Timer allows users to schedule a check-in. If the timer expires and the person fails to confirm they are safe, the system can escalate the situation and notify ADT monitoring. There is also a direct call option that connects users to a live ADT monitoring agent with one tap.

If speaking is not possible, the app also allows users to send a silent emergency text message to monitoring. Another option is an emergency phrase, which can trigger help using a custom verbal cue.

“Peace of mind shouldn’t stop at the front door,” said Jimmy Lin, Vice President of Product Management at ADT. “My Safety brings the strength of ADT’s professional monitoring network into everyday life, creating a smarter, more connected layer of personal security while on-the-go.”

My Safety will be included at no extra cost for customers with a qualifying ADT system and professional monitoring.

The home security market is crowded these days. Plenty of companies sell cameras, smart locks, and self-monitored alarm kits. Even so, ADT still holds a unique place in the industry thanks to decades of brand recognition.

That is probably why I like the Live Light idea so much. Instead of abandoning the classic yard sign, ADT leaned into it and made it smarter. Sometimes the best upgrades come from improving something people already know and trust.
